We are pleased to announce that with over 35 combined years of unparalleled success in the youth industry, for the second year, Back 2 Basics Academy (B2B) and Castle Rock Youth Enterprises, will come together to share with the youth our recent opportunities. With the support of M&T Bank and many other contributors, we will present three basketball events that will focus on Gun Violence Awareness and Healthier Life Choices by making available world-class presentations from experienced veteran basketball coaches and the hottest up-and-coming Sport-specific Trainers, Strength & Conditioning Trainers, Health & Wellness Coaches as well as local elite student-athletes.
We are hosting three free events.
- The first event will be an All-girl’s basketball clinic for 6-18 yr olds scheduled for Sunday, August 6th.
- The second event will be boy’s basketball tournament for 13 & 14 yr olds and is also scheduled for August 6th.
- Our third event, “Score Hoops to Save Lives” will take place on Sunday, August 13th.
All three events will take place at Bailey Park in the Bronx and will serve over 100 NYC children.
We stand behind a strong belief that team sports offer a unique opportunity to expose at-risk youth to positive experiences that will impact their growth, self-esteem, and social interaction with peers and adults. Our agenda continues to provide for all young children and teenagers. While fostering an environment for fun and energy, we are aware of the serious nature of this topic and we want to take advantage of this opportunity to have an impact on all who would attend. In order to achieve this we will have various persons whose lives have been affected by gun violence and destructive life choices address the crowds. They will share their stories and the memories of love ones and what they are doing about it now. We recognize the opportunity to serve a greater purpose.
These three events are designed to build up our youth and will also feature guest speakers, sport & life coaches and former pro players such as Teresa Edwards, James “Speedy” Williams, Lauren Best (Exodus), J. Brittany Ray (Rutgers U), Luis Guzman (Temple U/Dominican Republic), Roger Collier (Aquinas) and Devon Collier (Oregon State/Puerto Rico) to name a few, in a collective effort to:
• Promote and reward healthy decision-making skills.
• Focus on children to recognize their self-worth
• Build up mental health and stability
• Demonstrate and take pride in being a sensitive and supportive Peer
We are grateful for your support in securing in-kind, monetary or service donations for our events. We wish to continue to raise the bar for programs and leagues, making our best effort to provide equal opportunity and equal access for all children. Back 2 Basics Academy and Castle Rock Youth Enterprise believes that, through physical activity and team sports, life lessons are learned and friendships are formed as confidence and awareness of self are fostered.
