Tobias Harris & JJ Moore – Backpack Give-Away In Brentwood

It was a rainy overcast day on the Island yesterday, but it was all sunshine and smiles at Brentwood High School thanks to NBA star and Half Hollow Hills West alumni Tobias Harris. He’s on a mission to give out backpacks to multiple schools on Long Island and spread the blessings he’s recieved to the community. Tobias enlisted the assistance of NBA G-League and former Brentwood star JJ Moore to give out backpacks to kids in need at the Brentwood high School yesterday. This event was sponsored by the trendy new backpack supplier “Sprayground”. Not only did Tobias give away backpacks, but he addressed the campers and gave them words of encouragement and discussed the importance of education.

I wanted to get the inside scoop on the event so we reached out to the Suffolk County 3rd precinct Community Liaison Officer Eiffel Ramirez.

iLuvBBall: What prompted this event?

Officer Ramirez: This event was set up by Tobias Harris and his family. They reached out to Deputy Police Commissioner Risco Mention-Lewis (founder of C.O.T.A.) and asked her for help in assisting getting kids registered. She reached out to me then me to iLuvBBall. We also enlisted the help of the Christian Cultural Center.

iLuvBBall: What was it’s purpose of the event?

Officer Ramirez: the purpose was to encourage kids to excel in school. It’s great to play sports and excel but without hard work in school that cannot be achieved.

…and that was the gist of the event. Education + Hard Work + Success.

The point of this story is to show the NBA stars like Tobias Harris and local NBA G-league star JJ Moore are tangible and that with hard work, diligence, and education anything is attainable. This is also to highlight our local heroes and their acts of altruism. Also to show that the police are active members and friends to our community. Bravo Officers, Tobias, and JJ!!
