SUNY Delhi 2017-18 Recruiting Class

SUNY Delhi men’s basketball head coach Zack Thomsen has announced the addition of ten players to his recruiting class for the 2017-18 season – including TWO iLuvBBall Alumni. Coach Thomsen and the Broncos will look to improve upon their 13-17 mark from the 2016-17 campaign. The third-year head coach has expressed great confidence in the potential of this recruiting class:

“Going into this recruiting cycle I felt like we had three areas of weakness that badly needed to be addressed. First, we needed to add players with a defensive mindset, that fit in with the up-tempo style that we want to play. We also were very small last season and needed to add size particularly on the wing. Lastly, we needed a much more balanced scoring distribution than we had last season.”

“I think we’ve improved in all 3 of those areas. We’ve added players that take pride in the defensive end of the floor. We’ve also added a lot of size and athleticism at the wing positions, and I believe we have a lot more potential offensive weapons than we had a season ago. I’m excited that we’ve been able to bring in a number of student-athletes who come from winning programs, who can help to grow and shape our culture here.”

Here’s what Coach Thomsen had to say about our two iLuvBBall Alumni

Jordan Armstrong 6’4” Guard (Thomas Jefferson High School, Brooklyn, NY)  [… Formerly of Roosevelt HS & Rough Ryderz AAU]

“Jordan had an outstanding season for the Thomas Jefferson Orange Wave. He averaged 16 points, six rebounds and two assists and helped lead his team to the Class AA City Championship game to play eventual State and Federation Champions Lincoln High School. Jordan is a long, lanky, knock down shooter with the ability to get to the rim and keep defenses honest. Jordan was named a Class AA Honorable Mention All-State Selection.”

Brandon Grayson 6’0” Point Guard (Southside High School, Rockville Centre, NY) [… and also Team Noah AAU, see picture below on the left]

“Brandon was a 2nd Team All Long Island Selection and Honorable Mention All-State Selection. He averaged 17 points, five assists and two steals in helping to lead his team to the Section 8 Class A Championship Game. Brandon is a quick crafty point guard, who excels on the defensive end of the floor. He has a very high basketball IQ and does an excellent job of controlling the tempo of the game and making his teammates better.”

Currently on the roster is another iLuvBBall Alum & Brandon’s former teammate from Southside HS Timmy Awosika (pictured above on the right at our 2016 #iDtop4 Tournament)
