As a Long Island grassroots basketball organization, iLuvBBall supports many great causes in our local area. One event that we are excited to support is the Mandy’s Mark Memorial Classic in memory of Amanda “Mandy” Kuck. This event is a boys and girls high school all-star games that will have top high school basketball talent from New York and New Jersey in order to help raise awareness and funds for those affected with DIPG.
Join us at the first ever Mandy’s Mark Memorial Classic in honor of Amanda Kuck. Amanda Kuck, daughter of LuHi’s Tom and Kim Kuck, was a beautiful, sparkling little four year-old. Amanda, most often referred to as “Mandy”, was diagnosed with DIPG on 6/6/15. Unfortunately, only four days after her fifth birthday, Mandy was taken from this earth. DIPG is an aggressive pediatric brain tumor. Approximately 200-400 children in the US are diagnosed with DIPG each year. Medical discoveries throughout the last few years have increased survival rates for children diagnosed with cancer. However, those discoveries have done nothing for DIPG. There is currently no effective cure and no chance of survival for children diagnosed with this cancer. Only 10% of children with DIPG survive for 2 years after their diagnosis and less than 1% survive for 5 years.
These boys and girls all-star games were designed to raise awareness of DIPG, raise money for DIPG research, and celebrate an amazing little girl who was taken from this world too soon. We hope to see you at the event to honor Mandy.
The game will be played at Long Island Lutheran High School on June 3, 2017. This is a two game event featuring the top high school basketball talent from New York and New Jersey. All proceeds will go towards The Cure Starts Now Foundation. You can visit their website to learn more about the foundation at NEWYORK.THECURESTARTSNOW.ORG
We hope to see you there,
The iLuvBBall Team
